Guadalajara - Pénjamo - Irapuato - Guanajuato - Atotonilco - Dolores Hidalgo - San Miguel Allende Querétaro - Morelia - Santa Clara del Cobre - Pátzcuaro - Janítzio Island - Apatzingán - Ixtapa

Hidalgo and Morelos, are definitely two of the most important figures of the struggle for the Independence of Mexico. The route here below suggested is featuring places where either one of them or both had special roles on their ways to the immortality.

Departures:
SEPTEMBER 24, 2010 (VM-PH09-ENG) and NOVEMBER 20, 2010 (VM-PH11-ENG)

DAY 1.
GUADALAJARA.

Independent arrivals at the hotel.
Late afternoon "Get Together Cocktail" at the Hotel.
Evening free. Accommodation.

 

 

 

DAY 2.
GUADALAJARA - PENJAMO
, HIDALGO BIRTHPLACE - IRAPUATO - GUANAJUATO.

After breakfast a short visit to the Governmental Palace (Slave Abolition Act in 1810). After the guided visit departure for PÉNJAMO (Don Miguel Hidalgo's birthplace) and a visit to Hacienda Corralejo. Continuation on to Irapuato for lunch proceeding on to GUADALAJARA at the end. Before checking in at the hotel group will do a visit to the Pipila Monument. Accommodation.

DAY 3.
GUANAJUATO, PANORAMIC TOUR,
HIDALGO IN CAMPAIGN. BATTLE OF ALHONDIGA -
ATOTONILCO - DOLORES - SAN MIGUEL ALLENDE.

After breakfast walking tour of the historical district (UNESCO's Cultural Heritage of the World): Juarez Theater, Diego Rivera Museum, Union Garden, University of Guanajuato, Plaza de La Paz, Hidalgo Market, Alhondiga de Granaditas (first battle won by the insurgents in 1810), Lunch at a local restaurant and departure for ATOTONILCO to pay a visit to the shrine of Jesus of Nazareth (place where the Virgin of Guadalupe pennant was taken from, to serve as the front flag on the struggle for the Independence). Continuation on to the village of DOLORES, place where Hidalgo lived and where he first gave the so called "Cry of Dolores".
Visits to the Parish and the Hidalgo House Museum. Later we follow to SAN MIGUEL ALLENDE. Accommodation.

 


GUADALAJARA, DEGOLLADO THEATER

 

DAY 4.
SAN MIGUEL ALLENDE
, THE MAGIC OF A CHARMING VILLAGE, CITY TOUR.

After breakfast we will visit the San Miguel Parish and the Temple of San Francisco. After lunch visit to Ignacio Allende's House, one of the Insurgents. Remain of the day at leisure for independent visits and activities. Time to browse through the Art Galleries and the small shops. Accommodation.

DAY 5.
SAN MIGUEL ALLENDE - QUERÉTARO
, THE CONSPIRATION OF THE INSURGENTS, PANORAMIC CITY TOUR.


Breakfast at the hotel. Leave for SANTIAGO DE QUERETARO. Arrival and walking visit to the historical district, featuring: Regional Museum, Governmental Palace, Santa Rosa de Viterbo Temple, Art Museum and Main Square. Lunch followed by a guided visit to the House of Corregidora, place where Doña Josefa Ortíz de Dominguez was arrested. Accommodation.

DAY 6.
QUERÉTARO - MORELIA
, HIDALGO IN CAMPAIGN. SLAVE ABOLITION ACT.

Breakfast at the hotel. Before leaving QUERETARO, visit to the Church of Santa Rosa, Aqueduct and Convent of La Cruz. Lunch followed by a visit to the former convent Augustinian of Cuitzeo and to the Lagoon. Arrival at MORELIA visiting the aqueduct, the Church of San Diego and the Monument to Morelos. Accommodation.

DAY 7.
MORELIA
, MORELOS' BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION,
CITY TOUR.

Day 7 on the tour starting on SEP 24 is September 30th (Morelos birthday), when some official events are expected to be held in Morelia. For the tour starting on November 20 (*) we have some changes were made in the order of the services rendered, although the places visited are the same.

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure to walk down the streets of this charming town (UNESCO's Cultural Heritage of the World) or to attend the official parade or other events organized in celebration of Morelos' birthday.
In the afternoon walking visit to the historical district: the Cathedral, Governmental Palace, Conservatory and Las Rosas Temple, Clavijero Palace, San Nicolas College, Palace of Justice and Main Square. We then proceed to the House of Morelos for a short biographic presentation. Accommodation.

Day 7 services are as follows:

Day 07:
Breakfast at the hotel followed by a walking historical district visit featuring: the Cathedral, Governmental Palace, Conservatory and Las Rosas Temple, Clavijero Palace, San Nicolas College, Palace of Justice and Main Square. Afternoon visit to the Portal Matamoros, the Town Hall and the House of Morelos for a short biographic presentation. Accmmodation.

DAY 8.
MORELIA , FURTHER SIGHTS - SANTA CLARA DEL COBRE, VISIT - PÁTZCUARO,
MAGIC VILLAGE (PUEBLO MÁGICO), SIGHTSEEING.

After breakfast we proceed with the visit to other historical places focusing specially on the Portal Matamoros and the Town Hall (where the slave abolition was first decided). We then proceed on to SANTA CLARA DEL COBRE (visit to a local hammered copper work shop) arriving at PATZCUARO for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon visit to this charming colonial village, part of the official tourism program "Pueblos Mágicos" (Magic Villages of Mexico), one of the places Morelos rode through on his march towards Morelia. Visit features Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, House of 11 Courtyards and Main Square. Return to Morelia. Accommodation.

DAY 9.
MORELIA - JANITZIO - URUAPAN
, MORELOS IN CAMPAIGN..., VISIT.

After breakfast departure for PATZCUARO to board a boat trip to JANITZIO ISLAND (Morelos refuge) and home of the famous fishermen in the small boats with butterfly shaped nets. Time to walk up the hill browsing through the little tents and shops until we reach the top where the monument to Freedom is located. This was built in honor to Morelos. Return to PATZCUARO and continuation on to URUAPAN. Lunch and short panoramic visit with a stop at the National Park. Accommodation.

DAY 10.
URUAPAN - APATZINGÁN,
1ST. CONSTITUTION OF MEXICO - IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO.

Breakfast and departure for APATZINGAN, place where Morelos established the Constitutional Congress and the 1.st Political Constitution of Mexico was signed in 1814. Visit to the House of the Constitution proceeding later on to IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO (on the route of Morelos on his march to overtake Acapulco). Accommodation.


PATZCUARO, STREETS OF THE VILLAGE

 

DAY 11.
IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO
, (ON MORELOS WAY ON TO ACAPULCO).

Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure. You may enjoy a little of suntan at the beach or going for a short optional trip to the nearby fishing villages. Farewell dinner. Accommodation.


IXTAPA, SUNSET

DAY 12.
End of program.


Breakfast at the hotel. At convenient time transfer either to the airport or to the bus terminal to initiate the journey back home.

Accommodation at the chosen hotels or at others of similar ranking in rooms with private bath/shower; English speaking guide, specialist on Mexican History, throughout; transportation by AC van or motor coach according to the number of participants; transportation of one (1) mid size cabin bag not exceeding 20 Kg (*), services and visits as per itinerary; admission fees to the monuments where visits are included; travel insurance (**); hotel service charge and governmental taxes.
